Hey all,
I'm Jordan, I'm 21 and a junior at the University of Tulsa. I'm studying graphic design and just love it! I grew up in Wichita, KS and then came to OK for school. I'm an only child (except for the dog) and, even though they don't share my faith, my family and I have always been close. I love dogs, taking walks, hanging out with my friends, movies, music: i have a serious obsession with all things music, playing guitar- I sometimes lead worship at my campus ministry. I know I like lots of other things too, I just can't think of them right now. :)
It's been and interesting past month trying to get everything in place for the trip, but God's hand has been on it and me the whole way. It has been so glorious watching Him work and seeing the doors He's opened up for me! I've done two mission trips to New Orleans doing post- Katrina relief, I actually just got back from my second trip a few weeks ago. I've also done local missions, doing outreach in the community. I totally have a passion for helping children, but I also have a heart for adults, and teens, especially women, who find themselves in desperate situations. I've heard nothing but good things from people who have done missions in Uganda and can't wait to get started! I'm completely unsure of what this trip will hold for us, but I can't wait to find out!
Everyone's put a verse or quote or something up.. no need to break tradition :)
Food for thought:
Last night at my small group we were talking about Paul (we just started a study on Ephesians) and about how he did missions work out the wazoo. We discussed how he had traveled and how, especially in Ephesus, his longest stop on a mission trip, he spent time with the people there. He immersed himself in their culture and paid careful attention to their specific needs and beliefs. By doing this, by really familiarizing himself with the people around him, he was able to be a better witness to them. For instance, in Ephesus they worshipped a lot of false gods. They were very spiritual people who believed in magic, casting spells, 'astrology, exorcism, etc.... An un-supernatural gospel would have no impact there.' As we head into Uganda, my prayer for all of us is that we pay special attention to how we can really personalize the Gospel for the people we'll be meeting there. That we take the time to understand their culture so that we may be better witnesses.
Can't wait to meet you all in just a few short weeks!
